How often do I change the brake disc? What should I do for daily maintenance?
Today I'll tell you about this knowledge to let you know when to replace brake discs and the daily maintenance of brake discs.
How often do you change the brake disc?
How long the brake disc can be used mainly depends on people's road
conditions, vehicle frequency and vehicle habits. So no one can say
exactly how many years need to be replaced, because everyone is
different. But there is also an estimated time. Generally, the
brake pads need to be replaced after 30000-40000 km, and the brake
discs need to be replaced after 70000 km. The service time of the
brake pads is relatively short. Generally, the brake discs of the
car are replaced after twice, and the rear brakes need to be
replaced after 80000-100000 km. In fact, it can be judged how long
the brake discs need to be replaced.
For today's cars, the models are different, and the brake discs on
the car are also different. Moreover, many models do not have
specific regulations on how many years or how many thousands of
kilometers, but we should judge by the condition of the brake discs
during the inspection. Many cars shake and make abnormal noises
when the brake disc is not yet in service life. If one item is the
sound of metal friction, be sure to check the brake disc and see if
the brake disc has been worn to the point where the metal is
exposed. This is the maximum limit of the brake disc, and it must
be replaced at this time.
How to judge whether the brake disc needs to be replaced?
1. Listen to the sound. If the light brake is accompanied by the
silky sound or roar of "iron rubbing iron" (it may also be the
effect of running in of the brake pad at the beginning of
installation), the brake pad must be replaced immediately. Because
the limit marks on both sides of the brake pad have directly rubbed
the brake disc, it proves that the brake pad has exceeded the
limit.
In this case, when replacing the brake pad, cooperate with the
inspection of the brake disc. When this sound occurs, the brake
disc is often damaged and scratched. At this time, even if the new
brake pad is replaced, the sound can not be eliminated. It is
recommended to replace the brake disc in time. In addition, some
brake pads with poor quality have hard spots, which will also
produce abnormal noise. Generally, the abnormal noise will
disappear after being worn off for a period of time.
2. Generally, whether the brake disc warning light on the
instrument panel is on is used as the judgment basis for whether to
replace the brake disc. Generally, the indicator light is off. When
the brake disc is faulty or excessively worn, the light is on and
off after repair. When the warning light is on, the brake disc has
been worn to the limit, and the braking effect has decreased, which
greatly affects the driving safety. Therefore, we suggest to
regularly check the wear condition of the brake disc to see whether
it can be used, rather than just trust the warning light.
3. Look at the thickness. Most brake disc products have wear
indicators, that is, three small pits will be distributed on the
disc surface. Measure the depth of the small pit with a vernier
caliper, which is 1.5mm. In other words, the total wear depth on
both sides of the brake disc reaches 3mm. In case of quasi wear and
complete wear as shown in the figure below, we suggest replacing
the brake disc in time. Of course, not all brake discs have wear
indicators. We can use our fingers to touch the outer edge of the
disc to judge the approximate depth. Generally speaking, if the
total wear depth of both sides of the brake disc reaches 3mm, the
brake disc should be replaced in time. In addition, when the brake
discs (drums) on both sides use different brands and
specifications, the friction effects are different, resulting in
different braking effects on both sides, which will lead to the
adverse consequences of brake deviation, poor braking effect and
long braking distance. Therefore, it is recommended to replace the
coaxial brake pads on both sides at the same time to ensure the
same braking effect.
